Illustrative home-cooked cost per serving in India, not live market prices. Includes every listed ingredient used; excludes fuel, equipment and delivery. Buying whole packs costs more. Protein is an ingredient-based estimate, not lab-tested; brands, edible yields and substitutions change it.
Paneer bhurji is useful when you want a familiar Indian dinner without a rich cream gravy. Crumbled paneer cooks quickly with onion and tomato, while two small rotis supply the grain portion. Paneer prices and protein vary by brand and milk type, so treat both totals as planning estimates rather than guaranteed label values.

Mix 60 g atta with roughly 35–45 ml water to make soft dough. Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
- 2
Heat 5 ml oil in a pan. Add cumin, chopped onion and ginger; cook for 3 minutes.
- 3
Add tomato, capsicum, turmeric, optional chilli and salt. Cook for 5–7 minutes with a splash of water until the vegetables soften.
- 4
Crumble in 100 g paneer. Stir over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until hot throughout; avoid cooking until dry.
- 5
Divide dough in two, roll small rotis and cook each on a hot tawa on both sides until cooked. Serve with the bhurji.
Make the budget work
Paneer is the main cost here. Compare cost per 100 g rather than just the pack price, and buy a quantity you can refrigerate safely.
A practical variation
Firm tofu can replace paneer, but the flavour, allergens, protein and price change. Do not assume the original totals still apply.
Does paneer bhurji need cream or butter?
No. Tomato, onion and a little water keep this version moist; the recipe uses measured oil without cream or butter.
Food safety and allergens
Keep paneer refrigerated and follow its use-by date. Heat it thoroughly and chill leftovers promptly.
Allergens: Milk and wheat/gluten.
Refrigerate perishable cooked food within 2 hours, or 1 hour when above 32°C. Reheat leftovers to 74°C. Follow package instructions and do not use food that has been stored unsafely.
Protein estimates use typical ingredient values; compare with your package labels. See USDA FoodData Central for food-composition reference data. No outcomes or individual nutrition needs are guaranteed.
